2011 activity

Hum… I did not post “a lot” during 2011  :-(

Well…  often with my projects, the confidentiality is high before the launch. By the way I was working for this new service apps.1und1.de .

Let’s see if it will be improved for 2012 … and for now just discover the work-in-progress of my new MazeCube (a tetrahedron)

Microsoft-Nokia is not a première! Remember Microsoft-Ericsson more than 10 years ago? and this funny picture.

Joke apart, I think that there are oportunities from this deal where the benchmark is high.

Read Microsoft-Nokia willingness: "There are other mobile ecosystems. We will disrupt them."

Google AdWords promotion: Snail Mail from Google Switzerland with 125.- CHF AdWords voucher - Every Swiss company ready to start search advertising?

Googleadwordspromo125chf_sept2

Surprise this morning with a snail mail from Google Switzerland! (yes, they did not send me that with e-mail).
I received it for my small company, as MazeCube is not already registered as AdWords Customer. (Did you receive it too?).
The 125.- are only valid for September and you have to pay 20.- for activation and VAT. In October the value will drop to 80.- CHF.
So there is a push to expand AdWords for Internet non specialists with this incentive and with a step by step guide "for dummies".
Will a lot of Swiss companies really start search advertising?
Let's check too the effect on new types of AdWords messages for the next 2 weeks by google.ch
(I hope it will produce more innovative wordings and fun...)

New facebook feature: link your profile to pages / Don't do it right!

Another entry from facebook to link items together: your profile, the companies you worked for, the schools you attended, the cities you live(d) in. And everything almost automatically ...

(download)

step 1: Popup with link's suggestion (I took 'All')
step 2: It is done and immediately published within your profile (next: access your profile)
step 3: These items are now links (let's test my company MazeCube)
step 4: This is a brand new page, but not my official fan page (due to different naming), anyway I can suggest a link (or the related Wikipedia page)

Conclusion: easy to activate, but always depending on the different naming people give to any content...

In this case, let's try to improve it
step 5: On my profile I modify this employer's item. But copy 1st the related information ... that will be deleted when you change the main item's name/title
step 6: All 'old' information is automatically deleted (huh, nice!)
step 7: You have to input everything again (hopefully, we saved it previously)
step 8: The correction is done, but...
step 9: Result is bad, just another new page is created

So let's laugh further...
step 10: The previous service/product page has your detailed information, but it is not the one linked to your profile
step 11: On the new employer/enterprise page linked to your profile you can:
               - notice that you are interested in this page
step 12:    - suggest another url (in this case the previous service/product page)
step 13:    - try to manage this employer/enterprise page with best choice as 'local enterprise'
step 14:    => it is created but empty and ...
step 15: It is just another (4th one) new page as "local" enterprise

OK, we stop here for today as we don't want to let's inconsistent MazeCube pages flourish further!

So nothing new in the way one can manage facebook's page for the long time (create is ok, modify & delete is horrible)

Your very amused Nicolas  ;-)

Augmented Reality DevCamp Zurich

1st of March 2010's Augmented Reality Dev Camp Zürich organized by Chrsitine Perrey was very interesting.
(see published Outcomes and Supporting Materials)

You can find more participants' feedback with the twitter hash tag #arzurich. (or other blogs: Dan Romescu )

You can aslo join the ARCH-Swiss Augmented Reality meetup group.

On my side I was impressed by by Thomas Frey's Sudoku program based on Oberon : automatic recognition, solution and result publication in real-time (~33 milliseconds) of one or more Sudoku matrix. (select the picture to launch the related video)

From all the attended sessions, I think that one of the most promising area on the short term for Augmented Reality is for Marketing & Communication support for Web, PC and especially during event. Bruno Mettler's (from Vanija) knowhow on this area was great and also his Bombardier project, see here a similar demo:

The following Mobile Monday experiential (and experimental) event closed perfectly this journey with the opportunity to really explore Augmented Reality first hand.
